What a UL fire door rating means, which hardware comes with it, and how to order the right size for your building.
What does a UL fire door rating mean?
A UL-listed fire door has been tested to resist fire for a set period, slowing the spread of fire and smoke between rooms or floors. This matters most in stairwells, corridors, plant rooms, and any wall required by your building's fire safety plan to resist fire. Ask your architect or fire safety consultant which openings in your building need a rated door.
Single leaf sizes
Our listed Fire Door (UL) range runs from 750 x 2400mm up to 1220 x 2440mm, covering most standard openings in offices, factories and residential buildings. If your opening doesn't match a listed size, we make fire doors to fit — send us the width and height and we will quote it.
What comes with the door
Our UL single leaf fire doors are supplied with a vision panel, a door coordinator and a magnetic door holder. Models are available with either a panic bar (for emergency exit routes) or a mortise lock (for controlled-access rooms). Tell us which the opening needs.
Fire doors vs metal doors
A Star Metal Door is a strong steel door built for security and daily wear, but is not fire-rated. Choose a UL fire door specifically for any opening where your building's fire safety plan requires one; a standard metal door is the right (and more affordable) choice everywhere else.
